Differences between Hourly and Live-In Care
Time Commitment
HOURLY CAREGIVERS: An hourly caregiver provides care on an hourly basis, typically for a specific number of hours per day or week. They have scheduled shifts during which they are responsible for providing care to the individual.
LIVE-IN CARE: A live-in caregiver resides with the individual requiring care, providing continuous support throughout the day and night. They are available to assist whenever needed, including overnight care.
Residence
HOURLY CAREGIVERS: Hourly caregivers do not live with the individual receiving care. They typically commute to the individual’s residence to provide care during their scheduled shifts and then leave after their shift ends.
LIVE-IN CARE: Live-in caregivers live in the same household as the individual receiving care. They usually have their own designated living space within the home, such as a separate bedroom.
Flexibility
HOURLY CAREGIVERS: Hourly caregivers may offer more flexibility in terms of scheduling. They can be hired for a specific number of hours per day or week, and the schedule can be adjusted as needed. They may be hired for part-time or full-time work, depending on the individual’s care needs.
LIVE-IN CARE: Live-in caregivers are available round-the-clock and are responsible for providing care throughout the day and night. They may have scheduled breaks or downtime during the day but must be available if emergencies or immediate assistance is required.
Care Services
HOURLY CAREGIVERS: Hourly caregivers provide assistance with various tasks such as personal hygiene, medication reminders, meal preparation, ordinary cleaning, transportation, companionship, and other non-medical care duties.
LIVE-IN CARE: Live-in caregivers provide a wide range of services similar to hourly caregivers, including personal care, medication management, meal preparation, ordinary cleaning, transportation, and companionship. Since they are available 24/7, they can also offer assistance during nighttime routines and respond to emergencies promptly.
Cost
HOURLY CAREGIVERS: Hourly caregiving services are typically billed on an hourly basis. The cost is based on the number of hours worked and the rates set.
LIVE-IN CARE: Live-in caregiving services are typically arranged as a flat fee for a 24-hour period or on a daily basis. The cost structure for live-in caregivers may be different from hourly caregivers due to the continuous nature of their services. Typically the caregiver has a separate bedroom and food is provided by the client.

What Is Hourly Care?
When extra support is needed on specific days and times, an hourly caregiver is a great option to have in place. Caregivers concentrate on providing support with tasks on days and times of your choosing.
Our hourly caregiver services are for families needing home care support for 4-8 hours per day, allowing flexibility in scheduling according to the specific needs and preferences of their loved ones.
Hourly Care Shifts: We offer hourly care plans of 7+ hours per day with an option to choose between homemaker companion or personal care service plans varying on the type of support the client needs.
Flexible Schedules: Whether support is needed every day, or just a few days a week, you have the flexibility to customize and make changes to the services and caregiver’s schedule as your needs change or evolve.
What Is 24 Hour Care?
When your loved one needs round-the-clock help and wishes to remain at home, 24-hour care can be an ideal solution to keep them safe and supported throughout the day and night.
For seniors needing constant supervision and support throughout the day and night, our 24-hour care provides continuous, around-the-clock support. This option is best suited for individuals requiring full-time assistance and monitoring, like those with Alzheimer’s disease or Dementia.
Caregivers Rotate Shifts: Typically 24-hour care can be done in shifts where 2 caregivers each rotate schedules so that someone is present, alert and available to assist with needs as they arise.
Helps Individuals Remain Home: When your loved one prefers to remain home as an alternative to a nursing home or assisted living, 24-hour care is a viable solution to keep them safe as they age in place.
What Is Live-In Care?
Live-in senior care is an option for those who wish to remain home, but require constant support in order to do so safely. It’s often a cost-effective alternative to nursing homes or assisted living.
Ideal for family members requiring continuous support, our live-in care services offer a caregiver who resides with the client for ongoing care five or more days a week. This option ensures consistent assistance and companionship.
One Consistent Caregiver: One dedicated live-in aide will reside with and support your loved one with all aspects of daily living. This helps create the consistency and continuity needed to live comfortably.
Live-In Caregiver Requirements: 5-day minimum. Caregiver is required to have minimum of 7 hours of sleep time. A 2-hour daily break that caregiver uses to go out. A separate bedroom for the caregiver only, preserving dignity and privacy. Daily meals are provided by the care recipient and must be of good quality and varied. Services are billed on an up to 10 hour work day with breaks and sleep times factored in.
NOTE: If you cannot provide all the conditions, please opt for an hourly caregiver.
